Welcome to our website of Canadian literary resources selected by teachers in six Canadian provinces for raising issues of social justice in their classrooms. The teachers were participants in a three-year action research project funded by a grant from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Literacy researchers at the University of Alberta, University of British Columbia, University of Saskatchewan, McGill University, Lakehead University and Memorial University led the project along with their doctoral students. The bibliography of texts is organized according to genre and to grade level suitability.

  1. This is a wonderful resource. I appreciate children’s literature that address important life issues and social justice themes and will recommend this resource to my graduate students and colleagues.

  2. I like this initiative very much — thanks for your hard work. Is there a mechanism through which we can recommend books to be added? (Example: for secondary students, in the Poetry category, I recommend Marilyn Dumont’s A Really Good Brown Girl.)

    1. Hi Tanis,

A Really Good Brown Girl is under the Junior High/Secondary poetry label, but after thinking about it I think it’s best if I just combine those categories, so thanks for the suggestion!
